Hobby Gone Wild

Come out and celebrate our 10th year of food trucking with us! 2023 kicks off our 13 event journey in June. There will be 25 days worth of opportunities to fill your Neapolitan Style Wood Fired Pizza cravings!
2022 was overwhelmingly fun! We are excited for what 2023 holds in store for us. Our 10th year of food trucking will not disappoint!
The Ensemble of the Portable Pizza Palace and the Doughmobile was a smashing success in 2022! We traveled as far as Arlee, Bozeman and Helmville well prepared. We didn’t disappoint in the Bitterroot either!
BEHOLD THE DOUGHMOBILE!
If the summer of 2021 taught us anything it was that we needed more space for supplies. Most importantly was extra refrigeration for larger quantities of dough.

This lovely swan joined our team over the winter of 2022 and has made an incredible transformation from the ugly duckling it was when we bought it. One day we hope it will also make it possible to prepare dough on the road for long and distant events…
2021 was record breaking! With so many events canceled in 2020 and lots of new residents in the Bitterroot, we had plenty of opportunities to share the pizza love with others! 5463 pizzas later, we aren’t sure how we survived…
In mid-May of 2021 we were blessed with 8″ of snow the night we brought home the Palace after having a window installed on our previously windowless side.
In the spring of our 8th year, 2021, we replaced the oven that came with our Palace. Very much research went into this big decision.
2020 was a strange year indeed but we still found places to share the joy! We enjoyed Darby’s Last Fridays, Darby Rodeos, Hamilton Farmer’s Market, Bitterroot Elk’s Lodge, Helmville Rodeo and private events as well!
In our 7th year of bringing yummy pizza goodness to the masses by trailer, we upgraded from our humble wagon beginnings to this fabulous Portable Pizza Palace!
October 2019 – Scarecrow Festival in Stevensville was fun!
September 2019 – We catered a wedding at the Daly Mansion – leftovers, yum!
Ravalli County Fair 2019 – Moved up to a prime location!

Did you know the Wizard does street tacos too? At least, he did for the 2019 Lemhi County Fair.

We waited a couple of years for there to be room for us at the Celtic Festival – look closely, the Wizard is wearing a kilt!
Darby’s Last Fridays since 2014
5 years being on a wait list for the Western Montana Fair. 2019, Finally!
The calm after the great storm that tried to shut down the 1st evening of the 2019 Creamery Picnic in Stevensville
The Hardtimes Bluegrass Festival 2019 – Fun For All! Patience really is a virtue. By 2019, all of our waiting lists had come through.
The Last Logger Days, Darby, 2019 – Our 6th Summer of Fun

Rally in the Pines 2019, Lemhi County Fairgrounds – We found this incredible artwork!

Lots of entertaining events at the Darby Rodeo Grounds since 2017, like this one when the Pizza Wizard was literally holding down the fort in a storm – thank goodness for that big red tent!
July 4th 2019 – The sky was amazing even before the fireworks display!
Western Heritage Day in Stevensville was a nice last minute addition to our 2019 schedule.
Did you have the pleasure of meeting Broomhilda during the Summer of 2019? She was our hostess with the mostess, and a broomstick for a spine. She was hired for crowd control. We have since decided the crowds can’t be controlled.

We had letters in a box for years before we got around to having them applied in April 2019. Maybe we should have looked at them 1st. It would have saved us the trouble of having to paint them black. Oops.

2018 Ravalli County Fair – After 5 years of food trucking, we were finally accepted into the county fair! New management didn’t see our pizza as a duplicate food item. Yay!
Creamery Picnic 2018, Stevensville
July 2018 Lost Trail Powder Mountain – Can’t even remember what this event was called (so you know we had a good time) but it had something to do with the full moon…
July 2018 – Darby Logger Days

August 2017 – Not Every Special is a Hit but We Have Fun Trying

Have you had the pistachios? They were good when he was cooking them with garlic and onion, but when he started smoking them we knew we had to share.

June 2017, Darby Rodeo – We don’t usually get to watch!

July 2016 – Darby Logger Days
By July of 2015, The Wizard had Perfected the Art of Making Fresh Mozzarella, and Later Decided to Leave the Cheese Making to the Professionals.
Our Beautiful Red Tent at Skiesta (2015&2016)
March 2015 – We Bought the Neighbor’s School Bus to Tow the Wagon and House a Bed for Overnight Events
February 2015 – A few guest appearances at Darby’s Bandit Brewing

September 2014 – One year after embarking on this wood fired journey, the Pizza Wizard found himself with the unique opportunity to try out his dough on the masters at Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana in Salt Lake City.

July 2014 – Wood Tick
July 2014 – We survived our 1st Logger Days! This was our 1st waiting list as well, but we didn’t have to wait long! We were call up pretty close to the date of the event because the previous pizza vendor wasn’t going to be there. Having no idea how to prepare for something like this, we went way overboard on toppings and staff. The hardest part of our 1st big event was being able to hear the orders once the band started playing. No matter – we were hooked. We became event junkies!
Maybe we needed a better tent…
Good Ol’ Days at the Gas ‘n Grub
Pizza and Beer at Wildwood Brewing 2013-2015
October 2013 – The Wizard is Ready for His Close up
September 2013 – The Pizza Wizard Inspects His New Toy

Pizza had been a hobby for the Pizza Wizard much of his life, but in 2010 he started handing out samples in his fixed location and it all “took off” from there. NY Style Pizza was added to the menu and it soon crowded out all other options.

Following the Great Recession of 2008, guests were happy for a $10 dish to replace $20 and $30 entrees. So there we were – spoiling children and educating adults about how good pizza really could be…but in the middle of nowhere…

Offers were made to the Wizard for employment, for fixed locations in town, for opportunities to share his talent with the masses, but it wasn’t until he found the Pizza Wagon online that his journey literally “TOOK OFF”!!!
